It was from Óbidos that the municipality of Caldas da Rainha was born, previously called Caldas de Óbidos (the change of name was due to the seasons Queen Leonor spent there).
On February 16, 2007, the castle of Óbidos was named one of the seven wonders of Portugal.
In 2015, the Óbidos Town Walls were part of the "Wonders of Portugal" project, an initiative of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and the multinational Google that allows you to see 57 monuments in detail, in a 360-degree visit, available online from the Google or Google Maps pages[7].
Óbidos has already made visitors accustomed to its Christmas transformation. In recent years, the well-known town has been transformed into the "Christmas Village", a mystical place that enchants children and adults alike with the beauty and fun it offers everyone[8]. In addition to the "Christmas Village", Óbidos has other events such as the Medieval Fair, where the castle returns to its medieval origins and where you can experience what it was like to live at that time. The Chocolate Festival is also an event that attracts a lot of interest from tourists, where you can see life-size chocolate sculptures and children can take part in workshops and make their own chocolates.

Since 1996, the Association of International Music Courses (ACIM) has organized the Óbidos International Piano Week (SIPO), which includes master classes with national and foreign performers and piano teachers such as Josep Colom, as well as a varied concert programme.
More recently, Óbidos promotes the annual FOLIO - Óbidos International Literary Festival, an event focused on literary and musical culture.
